Fund Background

On May 25, 2004 our family and friends in the West Essex New Jersey community suffered the devastating loss of our son, Robert P. Giaimo, in a tragic car accident, just prior to his 21st birthday.  The Memorial Day weekend that followed was supposed to be the start of a summer full of adventures and excitement which sadly, Robert would not be able to fulfill.

Robert was a graduate of West Essex High School’s class of 2002 and was attending Ramapo College.  Robert was a young man with a zeal for life and devoted himself to his friends and passions.  First were his children, no child was too small to play with, too shy to bring them out of their shell or too difficult for him to reach; he truly gave all of himself to the children he taught.  The second, which had become his career goal, was the technical theatre.  The lighting, sound, set design and construction was what Rob lived for.

The Robert P. Giaimo Memorial Fund is a member of The Community Foundation of NJ (CFNJ) a 501© tax exempt organization.

Fund Contributions

The members of the board of the Robert P. Giaimo  Memorial Fund have dedicated themselves to continue what Rob had started to do during his short time with us.  The fund is designed to split funds raised in two ways:

  • The first is in the form of scholarships; they are not given necessarily to the student with the best grades, but rather one that gives all of themselves to their loves.
  • The second is in the form of donations that will benefit the children in the swim programs that Robert taught in.

In the past 5 years, we have been able to accomplish many of the goals set forth to continue Robert’s legacy with more than 18 scholarships being awarded to date.  The Giaimo Fund has also conducted swim clinics in the township of Fairfield which have taught more than 125 children swimming skills and water safety.
